Healthy Parks Healthy People story

Supplementary Image

The Healthy Parks Healthy People initiative was successfully launched by Parks Victoria in May 2000 to encourage increased visitation to parks and gardens by highlighting their health benefits. Parks Victoria has since invited other park agencies around Australia to join them in promoting the message nationally.

Healthy Parks Healthy People has now been adopted by the Sydney Parks Group in New South Wales, the Department for Environment and Heritage in South Australia and the Department of Environment and Conservation in Western Australia.

The Sydney Parks Group includes the Department of Environment and Climate Change (including the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Botanic Gardens Trust), Centennial Parklands, Parramatta Park, Sydney Olympic Park and Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.

National Steering Committee

A National Steering Committee was formed in 2007 comprising park agencies who have adopted the Healthy Parks Healthy People initiative.

It is envisaged that park agency members will work collaboratively on future promotions and events to gain national media coverage and public awareness for the campaign.
