Databases

New South Wales Shipwreck Database - This database was developed by the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH). The information on this database is periodically uploaded to the National Shipwrecks Database.

Australian Shipwreck Database - This database was developed by the Federal Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, each of the State historic shipwreck agencies, the Australasian Institute for Maritime Archaeology and the National Centre of Excellence in Maritime Archaeology (WA). The information is researched and collected by the State agencies and hosted by SEWPAC on the Internet.

Australian Register of Historic Vessels - The Australian National Maritime Museum is building this register to provide a guide to the size, distribution and condition of historic vessels in Australia. The database is available from the Museum's website.

New South Wales State Heritage Inventory - The State Heritage Inventory (SHI) is an electronic database of over 17,500 statutory listed heritage items in New South Wales protected by heritage schedules to local environmental plans (LEPs), regional environmental plans (REPs) or by the State Heritage Register.

If you want more detailed information on local items, refer to the heritage study for that area. This should be available from the local library or the council planning department.

OEH has been researching and compiling more detailed information on particular items. To find out which State items already have completed records in the State Heritage Inventory, select 'Show Only Items with Pictures' on the search screen.
