34th NPW Advisory Council meeting
The following is a summary of matters, of relevance to Advisory Committees, considered by the Advisory Council at its meeting held on 10 and 11 May 2011. This meeting was held at Toorale Station, Bourke and involved usual Advisory Council business and a field trip to consider the management issues of the reserve. The Advisory Council also had the opportunity to meet with members of the Far West Region Advisory Committee.
Plans of Management
Council made recommendations that the Minister adopt the plans of management for the following areas:
Deputy Chief Executive’s report to Council
The following is a summary of issues Sally Barnes, Deputy Chief Executive, Parks and Wildlife Group discussed with Council:
New Minister – The Hon Robyn Parker MP, Minister for the Environment
Creation of the Office of Environment and Heritage within the Department of Premier and Cabinet
Government has indicated intent to transfer management of marine parks from the Office of Environment and Heritage

Lord Howe Island Regulation Review
Species Specific Code of Practice for Rehabilitating Fauna

Conservation Planning and Community Participation
Perisher Village Project
Sally Barnes, Deputy Chief Executive Parks and Wildlife presented on the Perisher Village Development Project.
Other Reports
Council received written reports on the PWG Visitor Accommodation Project Update, Mimosa Rocks National Park Plan of Management and the Far South Coast Escarpment Parks Plan of Management.
Toorale Station, Bourke
Mark Peacock, Director Western led a tour of Toorale on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning discussing various management issues on the property. Members of the Far West Region Advisory Committee joined the Advisory Council for the tour. Sites visited include the Historic Homestead Precinct, Ross Billabong, Dicks Dam and Mount Talowla. Council members were provided with an overview of the purchase and management of Toorale and a copy of the Draft Interim Management Guidelines for Toorale Station.
The Advisory Council would like to acknowledge and thank the NPWS staff in the Western Branch, in particular the Bourke Area Office and the Broken Hill Office, for all the work involved in organising and leading the trip to Toorale.
