Camping
Watagans National Park is a spectacular place to spend a night or two. Camping is available under tall trees at two locations in the north eastern section of the reserve.
Campgrounds
Gap Creek camping ground (3 sites)
Wheelchair access: medium
Accessible toilets and picnic table via a short unformed path from the carpark.
Gap Creek camping area is located at the end of Bangalow Road on the eastern side of the Watagans National Park. Campsites are located within tall blue gum and blackbutt forest close to two rainforest walking tracks, one leading down to the impressive Gap Creek Falls.
Activities: day walking, picnics and barbecues, camping
Natural setting: rainforests
Getting there: Located at the end of Bangalow Road, 4.8 km from the Mount Faulk Road intersection.
Facilities: wood barbecues (bring your own firewood), gas/electric barbecues (free), picnic tables, non-flush toilets
Water supply: There is a water tank on site, however the supply is unreliable so campers should bring their own water.
Not permitted here:
- Gathering firewood. Please bring your own firewood from outside of the reserve.
- Dogs.
- Horses.
Bookings: Bookings are not required. Peak periods may limit availability. Alternative sites may be available at Bangalow camping area or the adjacent state forest.
Bangalow campground (3 sites)
Camp amongst tall blue gums and blackbutts. This camping area is a short distance (1km) from Gap Creek camping area.
Activities: day walking, picnics and barbecues, camping
Natural setting: grassy woodlands
Getting there: This campground is beside Bangalow Road, 3.8km from the Mount Faulk road intersection.
Facilities: wood barbecues (bring your own firewood)
Water supply: Water tank on site, however supply is variable. Recommend you bring your own drinking water.
