The roads in and around Barrington Tops National Park and State Conservation Area are generally unpaved. However, you can get to most major facilities in the park in a standard 2WD car, including:

4WD and trail bike touring

All access roads to the park are unpaved for at least part of their length, although the vast majority are accessible to 2WD vehicles. However, some trails in the north of the park are 4WD-only access, including the Barrington Trail (see details below).

General information

From October through to May every year the Barrington trail opens up to provide four-wheelers access to Little Murray camping area (5km), Mount Barrington (15km) and Junction Pools campground (12.5km).

It’s a great drive or mountain bike, and there are spectacular views, an amazing array of forest habitats and clear mountain air to enjoy. Make sure you load your boot up with all your camping, walking and fishing gear to make the most of your visit to the park.

If you’re a keen photographer, bring your equipment into the park to capture misty forests, scenic streams and wonderfully varied bird and animal life.
