Minnamurra Rainforest Centre offers visiting school and tour groups the opportunity to explore the rainforest with experienced Rainforest Guides.
Education programs and teacher support
Interested school groups are invited to visit and study this rare remnant rainforest that once covered vast areas of the Illawarra region. A number of educational packages suitable for primary HSIE and secondary Geography and Science students are offered, with specific outcomes that reflect the individual syllabus stages are covered. Programs can be modified to suit the individual needs of your student groups.
As part of the booking, teachers receive a CD that includes a complete excursion risk assessment, resource data, links to support pre- and post-excursion activities and field excursion work sheets.
School excursions in the park
Rainforest and national parks made easy
The Minnamurra Rainforest Centre has worked closely with the DET- HSIE & Geography Curriculum Support Unit in developing specific programs for primary and secondary students. Each program involves a presentation prior to a guided tour of the Rainforest Loop Walk. Upon booking, teachers receive a locally produced CD-ROM containing resource material and additional references to assist teachers with classes before and after the excursion, and work sheet templates for the field excursion. Minnamurra Rainforest was selected as a 'case study' on the Department of Education’s HSC Online website. It is specific to Stage 6 'Ecosystems at Risk', but is an excellent resource for teachers wanting general information about Minnamurra.
