Tianjara Artillery Impact Area
There is live Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from former artillery training activities in the northeastern part of the Budawang Wilderness and adjacent parts of the Tianjara Plateau. Activiites such as erecting tents, campfires and digging may cause a UXO to explode and could result in death or severe injury.
The Artillery Impact Area in the northern part of the training area has large amounts of UXO and is permanently closed to certain activities. Walkers must keep to vehicle trails or the Folly Point walking track and no off-track walking is permitted. Digging and campfires are not permitted along tracks. Camping may only occur at the Sassafras or Tianjara Link Road camping areas and campfires are only permitted at the Sassafras camping area.
Other parts of the military training area could have smaller amounts of UXO. In these areas visitors are advised to keep to existing tracks and camp sites and use fuel stoves only.
The latest 1:25,000 topographic maps (third edition) show the training area and artillery impact area. Please refer to these maps as incorrect boundaries my be shown on other maps.
If you see any potential live military object stay well clear and do not touch. Record the location or mark it at a safe distance, and report it to the Police as soon as possible (Ulladulla Police: 4454 2542).
