Values and goals

Open OEH goals align with the general principles of open government including transparency, participation and accessibility. They drive the strategies, activities and outcomes of Open OEH throughout the organisation, and are monitored, reviewed and reported openly.

Goal 1:
Increase transparency and access to information, services and people

Goal 2:
Deliver content that people want, to where they are, in the way they need

Goal 3:
Engage in greater collaboration, participation and conversation

Open OEH has developed a number of strategies to help achieve these goals.

Goal 1 strategies:

Increase transparency and access to information, services and people
  1. We are working to publish important information on www.environment.nsw.gov.au, Opengov.nsw.gov.au and data.nsw.gov.au
  2. We are collecting, evaluating and working to action customer feedback that helps us to improve the transparency of OEH information.
  3. We are working to improve the functionality and accessibility of OEH websites.
  4. We are working to increase access to our services and people.

Goal 2 strategies:

Deliver content that people want, to where they are, in the way they need
  1. We are delivering content through multiple channels and formats.
  2. We are working to improve the discoverability, accessibility and usability of information.
  3. We focus on an access and exchange approach to information.
  4. We work to engage proactively with stakeholders to identify information or data that is of greatest value and then release that information or data.

Goal 3 strategies:

Engage in greater collaboration, participation and conversation
  1. We actively seek collaboration opportunities and provide a formal and recognised role for customers in co-designing policy, regulation, service delivery and program implementation.
  2. We collaborate with community, citizens, industry and research partners to co-design service solutions
  3. We actively seek new and innovative partnerships with other governments, industry, the research community and the public.
  4. We actively solicit public input and feedback on our work.
  5. We create feedback loops to make sure stakeholders' and customers' needs are being met.
  6. We are expanding our use of social media to communicate with staff, customers and industry.
  7. We are open about processes and decisions.
  8. We facilitate staff participation in open, collaborative programs.
