Wallsend

The Wallsend air quality monitoring site is located in the Newcastle City Council Swimming Pool, off Frances Street, Wallsend. It is situated in a residential area south-west of Newcastle and is at an elevation of 8 metres. It is situated within the DEC's Lower Hunter region.

The Wallsend site was commissioned in November 1992.

Data from this site are used in the Regional Air Quality Index.  A summary of the data from the previous day can be found in the 24-hour summary.

The following air pollutants and meteorological variables are currently measured at Wallsend:

  • O3
  • NO, NO2 & NOx
  • SO2
  • Fine particles (by nephelometry)
  • Fine particles (PM2.5 & PM10 using a tapered element oscillating microbalance)
  • Wind speed, wind direction and sigma theta
  • Ambient temperature
  • Relative humidity
  • Nett radiation
