Estuary management grants

Under the Estuary Management Program, the NSW Government is providing estuary management grants to support local government to improve the health of NSW estuaries.

Applications for the 2013-14 funding round closed on 14 February 2013.  Applicants will be notified in writing about the outcome of their application.

How much is available?

Funding of up to 50% of a project's costs will normally be offered for successful grant applicants.

Who can apply?

  • Local councils
  • A Regional Organisation of Councils who is managing a grant on behalf of a group of local councils
  • Lord Howe Island Board
  • Hunter-Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority, if the project is being funded by the catchment contribution, collected by local councils on behalf of the Hunter–Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority
  • Lake Illawarra Authority, if project funding includes matching contributions from Shellharbour and Wollongong councils
  • Catchment management authorities (CMAs), county councils and public land managers (such as a Crown reserve trust or a location-specific NSW Government authority) in partnership with a lead council, providing the council is the principal applicant and assumes overall responsibility for administering the grant.

What will be funded?

Projects which can be subsidised under the programs include:

  • preparation (or updating) of coastal zone management plans and associated technical studies (including coastal hazard assessments)
  • action to manage the risks from coastal hazards
  • action to implement environmental repairs, including habitat restoration and conservation projects
  • pre-construction activities for projects that are eligible and are likely to proceed to construction
