Invasion and Establishment of Escaped Exotic Garden Plants - rejection of key threatening process listing

NSW Scientific Committee - final determination

The Scientific Committee, established by the Threatened Species Conservation Act, has made a Final Determination to REJECT a proposal to list ‘Invasion and Establishment of Escaped Exotic Garden Plants’ as a KEY THREATENING PROCESS in Schedule 3 of the Act. Listing of Key Threatening Processes is provided for by Part 2 of the Act.

The Committee has determined to replace the proposed listing of ‘Invasion and Establishment of Escaped Exotic Garden Plants’ as a KEY THREATENING PROCESS with a new proposal to list ‘Loss and degradation of native plant and animal habitat by invasion of escaped garden plants, including aquatic plants’ as a KEY THREATENING PROCESS in Schedule 3 of the Act. The new proposal reflects that the threatening process is not confined to the terrestrial environment.
