Environmental water holdings

OEH is responsible for the delivery of all water for the environment in NSW including Commonwealth water held by the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder.

The table below summarises current NSW ‘adaptive’ or licensed water for the environment.

Note: this does not include ‘planned’ water for the environment which is allocated under Water Sharing Plans.

The NSW Government purchased water for the environment at market rates through existing water markets.  

Previous use of environmental water

The graph below identifies the total use of water for the environment in NSW over time.

The variation in volumes is the result of drought up to 2010 followed by higher rainfall years.
