Sustaining our environment

Fleet management

The NSW Government Sustainability Policy incorporates the Cleaner Fleet Initiative. The targets under the initiative, originally set in 2005, were revised in 2010 and the following actions now apply:

  • For the Government fleet to improve the average 'environment performance score' (EPS) by 2010/11, using the NSW Clean Car Benchmarks, to:
    • 13.5 out of 20 for passenger vehicles, and
    • 9 out of 20 for light commercial vehicles
  • For the Government fleet to progressively reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions to achieve a 30 per cent reduction by 2010/11, based on 2004/05 performance.
  • Agencies with fleets of 25 to 99 cars are required to have at least one petrol/electric hybrid fuel technology vehicle. For fleets comprising 100 or more vehicles, one per cent of the fleet must be hybrid vehicles.
  • The new NSW government fuel contract supports alternative fuels by incorporating LPG, ethanol-petrol and biodiesel suppliers into its list of approved suppliers.

The Cleaner Fleet Initiative is coordinated by StateFleet (part of the Department of Finance and Services).
