Sustaining our environment

Reporting

The NSW Government Sustainability Policy requires agencies to provide information on progress against Policy Targets.

Depending on their size and composition, agencies need to report on:

  • Energy consumption
  • Water consumption
  • NABERS rating
  • Waste, recycling and purchasing (WRAPP)
  • Car fleet

The reports are required for OEH's annual progress reports on the performance of the NSW Government Sustainability Policy to the Minister for the Environment.

Energy & water consumption

Larger NSW Government budget-dependent agencies with more than 200 staff and not operating primarily out of office space, should report consumption of energy, water, transport and stationary fuels into OSCAR for each financial year by 31 October.

Smaller agencies with less than 200 staff will be provided with a report of their annual water and energy consumption data by OEH and are not required to import the data into OSCAR.

NABERS rating

NSW Government budget-dependent agencies in government-owned or tenanted office space over 1000 square metres must obtain and report their NABERS Energy and Water ratings to OEH. The Office Building Strategy - Questions and Answers (10149obs.pdf, 93kb) provides more information about the NABERS rating requirements.

Waste, recycling and purchasing (WRAPP)

All agencies and State-Owned Corporations must have a Waste Reduction and Purchasing Policy (WRAPP) plan.

NSW Government agencies with less than 200 staff are required to report on WRAPP progress in their annual report every three years.

Larger NSW Government agencies with more than 200 staff, are required to report waste in their annual report every year and must prepare a WRAPP report for OEH every 2 years.

Car fleet

All agencies with large vehicle fleets, accounting for 95% of the NSW Government fleet, must prepare a Fleet Improvement Plan annually and report to Department of Finance and Services (DFS).

NSW Health and Department of Education and Communities have agency-specific reporting requirements which are documented in the NSW Government Sustainability Policy
