Project summaries

Byron Shire Council
Enhancement of the Byron Resource Recovery Centre
$119,602

This project will enhance the Byron Resource Recovery Centre by implementing the innovative L-Bin collection and drop-off system patented and produced by Contained Waste Solutions. The project will involve the construction of a hard stand drop-off area on residual capped landfill and installation of 6-8 litre bin system bays specifically designed to enable customers and transfer station operators to easily self-sort C&D materials, metals, co-mingled recyclables, cardboard, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), soft plastics and resalable tip-shop items.

Macleans Waste Management
Macleans construction waste recycling facility upgrade
$460,000

This project will see the expansion of Macleans Waste Management’s sorting capacity at their St Marys facility, and the addition of a new waste sorting line which includes new plant, equipment, installation of a weigh bridge and changes to the site management. This will improve the recovery of resources from the currently landfilled stream of mixed light waste (including plastics), and improve landfill diversion of waste generated in the construction of project homes.

Shoalhaven Recycling
Shoalhaven Recycling MRF Enhancement and Expansion
$921,678

Shoalhaven Recycling’s project will both enhance and build capacity for their Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Bomaderry NSW. This is the only facility servicing the Shoalhaven region and the Bega Valley.  Stage 1 of the project will increase efficiency and reduce contamination of the existing facility resulting in an increased through-put of approximately 5000 tonnes per annum. Stage 2 will build future capacity with: (a) the construction of a new facility warehouse; (b) an increased receiving area; (c) the installation of a commercial front end sort line; and (d) the combination of the MRF and glass processing plant into the one facility.

These measures will also improve the environmental performance of the facility by reducing litter, dust, cross contamination and leachate with an increased through-put capacity of 10,000 tonnes per annum.
