Monitoring and Evaluation Plan

The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Plan is the major tool that will help you achieve the outcomes of your project and allow an adaptive approach to managing the project. The Environmental Trust has developed a template to assist Grantees in developing an M&E Plan. If you have a large grant then we would expect a more detailed plan than a smaller grant.

Regular monitoring and evaluation helps you to decide whether your project objectives are being met, and whether projected outcomes will be achieved. If this is done in a participatory way, your group members and stakeholders will improve their understanding of the work being done and the progress so far. Much of the information you require to set up your M&E Plan is available from your Grant Application. If you get the planning right at the beginning then running your project, collecting the data and reporting your progress should be simple.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Plan template requires Grantees to provide information on:

  • Project objectives
  • Stakeholder identification and interests/views
  • Project plan which links project objectives, activities and measures and how/who and when these measurements will be taken during the project
  • How baseline data will be collected and incorporated
  • What success would look like
  • Risk management
  • Communication strategy
