Monitoring and Evaluation Plan

Research plots and participantts examining each plotThe Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Plan is a tool designed to help you achieve the outcomes of your project while allowing you to adapt if necessary as you manage your project. The Environmental Trust has developed this template to support you as a Grantee in planning and delivering your project. If you have a large grant then we would expect a more detailed plan than for a smaller grant.

Regular monitoring and evaluation helps you to decide whether your project objectives are being met, and whether projected outcomes will be achieved. If this is done in a participatory way, your group members and stakeholders will improve their understanding of the work being done and the progress so far. Much of the information you need to set up your M&E Plan is available from your Grant Application.

If you get the planning right at the beginning, then running your project, collecting the data and reporting your progress should be simple.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Plan form (140812MEplan.docx, 133KB) asks you to identify:

  • Project objectives that are measurable
  • Stakeholder interests/views
  • A Project plan which links project objectives, activities and measures and how/who and when these measurements will be taken during the project
  • How baseline data will be collected and incorporated
  • What success would look like
  • Risk management strategies
  • A communication strategy that takes account of your stakeholders
