Energy education projects

Project summaries

The following energy education projects were supported under the Energy Savings Fund.

Australian Conservation Foundation
ACF's GreenHome - community education for sustainable living
Funding: $889,935

The Australian Conservation Foundation's GreenHome program helps householders save energy, water and waste and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This project has targeted high energy-using households with a community education program and provided retrofits to change both behaviour and household fixtures and fittings.

Since the GreenHome program was established in 2005 with funding support from the Environmental Trust, it has successfully helped hundreds of householders live more sustainably. The project is saving and estimated 523 MWh of electricity and 908 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year.

Community Broadcasting Association of Australia
Energize: energy savings education project
Funding: $142,000

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia has broadcasted a series of radio clips about energy efficiency to listeners across NSW. The radio segments were developed in consultation with industry and community experts and broadcasted via satellite and digital delivery to the Association's 80 radio stations around NSW. The project is saving 7,234 MWh of electricity and 7,668 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year.

GPT Group
Retailer Energy Efficiency Education Program
Funding: $256,000

Shop designers, design managers and shopfitters will be offered training in energy efficient retail design through this education program developed by major shopping centre landlords, the GPT Group. By educating for energy-efficient design, the program will deliver long-term savings for retail tenants, who are responsible for approximately half of the energy and water used in shopping centres. It will also help them save money on energy bills. This project will save 9,173 MWh of electricity and 9,723 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year.

Impact Employee Communications Pty Ltd
Workplace Energy Savings Communication Program
Funding: $324,000

Impact Employee Communications is developing and testing an employee energy education program for high users. This project builds on the pilot to deliver the education program to 10 more high energy-using companies, increasing staff awareness of energy savings at work and equipping them with tools and understanding for improved efficiency. The program has demonstrated the benefits of education in garnering employee support for the companies' energy saving activities and achieving further savings through behavioural change. This project will save 6,500 MWh of electricity and 6,890 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year.
