Amcor Beverage Cans
Botany Mill - new steam raising plant to replace existing boiler
Funding: $1,661,507

Innovative reverse osmosis technology has been introduced at the Amcor Packaging plant in Botany in a $13.5 million project which replaced all potable water used in the paper recycling process. Four steam raising plants were installed to provide steam and replace the existing boiler. Reverse osmosis is used to treat bore water from six bore pumps, saving 160 million litres of water a year. The project is also saving energy and paving the way for future efficiency improvements in Amcor's operations.

Cumberland Country Golf Club Ltd
Cumberland Country Golf Club Pipeline
Funding: $398,250

Groundwater is being pumped from Boral's quarry at Prospect to the Cumberland Country Golf Club at Greystanes to provide enough water for the course greens, tees and fairways. A four kilometre pipeline has been laid to carry the treated groundwater to the course.  On it's way, it also provides irrigation water for Holroyd City Council parks and Greystanes Primary School.  The project is replacing trucks which have been carting water from the quarry to the golf club for the past six months.  It is saving an estimated 55.9 million litres of drinking water a year.

Waverley Council
Waverley Groundwater Irrigation Project
Funding: $74,900

This project has reduced Waverley Council's consumption of potable water by using local groundwater instead of potable water to irrigate Waverley Council’s parks, saving 16 million litres of water a year.  The project included feasibility studies with the UNSW Water Research Lab, drilling test bores and extensive water quality and volume testing to determine sustainable yields.

Wollondilly Shire Council
Tahmoor Sportsground Groundwater Bore
Funding: $45,000

Preliminary investigations into the viability of a groundwater bore at Tahmoor Sportsground showed that enough quality water could be sourced to irrigate the three sports fields. This project will involve installing a submersible pump, storage tank and surface pump with additional piping to bring the water to the soccer fields and cricket pitch during periods of low rainfall.  This project will save 4.9 million litres of drinking water a year.
