NESB pesticides training program

Environmental Trust LogoImproving pesticide management in NSW is a key area of reform for the Government. To this end, the Government created new pesticides legislation focussed on protecting the community by reducing the risk associated with the use of pesticides to human health, the environment, property, industry and trade.

The Pesticides Amendment (User Training) Regulation 2003 (the regulation) provides for the compulsory training of commercial and occupational pesticide users in the safe use of pesticidces. The regulation commenced on 1 September 2003.

NESB Pesticides Training Program - Round 2

Applications have closed.

The objective of this program is to ensure non-English speaking background (NESB) market gardeners in the Sydney Basin are trained to use pesticides safely. The program will commence in February 2004. The regulation gives all commercial and occupational users until 1 September 2005 in which to obtain training.

The NESB Pesticides Training Program will provide up to $1.5 million towards training assistance within this period only. The project will cease in September 2005. The Trust is making funds available to Registered Training Organisations to deliver specifically tailored pesticide training courses to market gardeners from Chinese, Cambodian, Vietnamese and Arabic backgrounds. An amount of $355 is available for each person completing accreditation training, $300 for re-accreditation training, and funds are only available for training growers from these backgrounds.
