Harvesting
Bateau Bay Public School
Bateau Bay Public School Rainwater Harvesting Project
Funding: $60,000
The Bateau Bay Public School oval will be soon be irrigated with rainwater captured in new storage tanks.
A series of tanks will be installed with a total storage capacity of 160,000 litres of rainwater, collected from the roof areas. The project will save more than 1.5 million litres of drinking water a year.
Glengara Village
Glengara Village Rainwater Harvesting Project
Funding: $24,000
The 304 residents of the Glengara Retirement Village in Tumbi Umbi will soon be reaping the benefits of rainwater harvesting.
Rainwater tanks will be installed to capture water to re-open the Village spa and provide an alternative supply to ensure the ongoing operation of the pool.
The project will increase Glengara's rainwater storage capacity and harvest rainwater from the site's large roof areas to save more than 900,000 litres of water a year. The harvested water will also be used for cleaning and irrigation at the village.
Lowes TC Pty Ltd
Rainwater Harvesting for Elite Plug Production at Lowes TC
Funding: $30,110
Two 239,000 litre tanks will be installed at Lowes TC commercial nursery to capture enough rain from the greenhouse roof area to replace more than 50% of its potable water use.
The project will enable the Tumbi Umbi nursery, which specialises in tissue culture propagation, to save more than two million litres of water a year.
Customers at Tumbi Carwash, in Tumbi Umbi will soon be able to wash their cars with water harvested from its new rainwater tanks.
This project builds on a program of treatment and recycling projects at the carwash and will save 300,000 litres of water a year.
Mingara Recreation Club Ltd
Mingara Leisure Centre Rainwater Harvesting
Funding: $60,000
The Mingara Recreation Club will be saving 2.1 million litres of drinking water a year by harvesting rainwater in new underground tanks.
This project adds to Mingara's suite of water savings initiatives. Rainwater will be harvested from a large roof area and carpark into a new 160,000 litre underground storage tank and used to irrigate sports fields.
Woolworths Limited
Rainwater Harvesting for Woolworths Wyong Regional Distribution Centre
Funding: $150,000
Rainwater tanks will be installed at Woolworths Regional Distribution Centre in Wyong to harvest, store and supply 90% of water needed for its cool room cooling towers and truck washing.
The installation of smart metering will lead to further savings by ensuring leaks are detected immediately. Overall, the project is expected to save 12.8 million litres of water a year.
Woongarah Public School
Woongarah Public School Rainwater Harvesting Project
Funding: $50,000
As one of the newest school in NSW, Woongarah Public School will lead by example by providing a permanent alternative water supply to irrigate its oval.
The project involves installing a series of tanks with total storage capacity of 160,000 litres, to collect rainwater from roofs and provide an alternate water supply for toliets, gardens and oval, saving more than 1.7 million litres of drinking water a year.
Efficiency
The Lake Haven Masonic Retirement Village in Lake Haven will be saving 40% of water in its laundry by installing laundry monitoring and ozone generation system. The project will save 438,000 litres of water a year and will also deliver energy and gas savings to the Village.
Ozone laundering has been successfully used in Europe and America for many years and saves water, energy and chemicals. The technology also reduces washing times, allowing for increased productivity.
Results of the project will be reported through the Central Coast Aged Care Association, and be promoted on the Royal Freemasons and Aged & Community Services Association of NSW & ACT websites.
Sulo MGB Australia Pty Ltd
Process Water Saving Project for Factory Cooling Towers
Funding: $185,000
Sulo's Somersby manufacturing plant will save almost seven million litres of potable water a year by replacing existing condensing type cooling towers with adiabatic cooling technology.
Adiabatic cooling technology is widely used in Europe and America and it achieves significant water savings by using an enclosed cooling process. The projects also involves installing new rainwater tanks to harvest water for use in the new cooling system.
The Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne V.C Hostel in Noraville will be saving almost 300,000 litres of water a year by installing a laundry monitoring system and ozone generation system.
The project will cut water use in its laundries by approximately 40% and will also deliver significant energy and greenhouse gas savings.
The Woy Woy Community Aged Care facility will be reducing its water use in its laundry facilities by 40%, by installing a laundry monitoring system and ozone generation system.
The project will save almost 1 million litres of water a year and will also deliver significant energy and greenhouse gas savings.
The following projects were offered funding, but will not proceed because the applicant has chosen not to accept the grant or the funding was not taken up in the agreed timeframe:
