Assembling the mould

Once the plaster pattern has been worked into a final form, a mould is then assembled as shown here by the staff at Phoenix Foundry.

This picture shows the two parts of the mould being carefully positioned before they are placed together. The mould is made from sand and binding resins, and its weight of about 850 kilograms is attested by the need to use a fork lift to move it around and manoeuvre it into place.
