Description

Construction years: 1915-1945
Physical description: Good grouping of Art Deco and International style flat buildings, centred on the five-way intersection of Brighton/Gould/Hastings. Includes Nos. 1-13 Brighton Boulevarde, 6-8 Hastings Parade and 37-43 Gould Street. The best individual buildings are "Jugiong" (37-43 Gould Street) and "Wandella" (1 Brighton Boulevarde). They stand on the corner of Gould Street and Brighton Boulevarde and both are individually listed. Nos. 3-13 are a consistent row of two storey, 1940's style flats. They are typical of those built throughout the area in the 1930's and 40's, and are amongst the least altered. Each is dark brick with a hipped tiled roof. All feature some degree of decorative brickwork. Nos. 6 and 8 Hastings Parade stand on the opposite corner of Gould Street. Each is an interesting individual design which frames the corner well. (See also forms for individual buildings).
