Statement of significance:

Very good example of a Victorian terrace style house, with most of its original fabric intact. Of special note for its carriageway entry, now rare. Important individual element in the Charing Cross townscape for over 115 years. Local significance.

Description

Construction years: 1890-1890
Physical description: Impressive, two storey, Late Victorian house. In good condition and appears little altered. Gabled form with slate roof. Parapet side walls. Double verandah across whole front with wing walls. Ogee, corrugated iron roof. Original cast iron columns and lacework decoration. Of special note is carriage entry to rear yard. Excellent windows and door downstairs, with elaborate stucco mouldings. Four french doors upstairs. Original palisade fence and gates.

History

Historical notes: First definite appearance in Sands Directory in 1877. Occupied from 1877 to after 1905 by William Evans, painter. Evans lived in the street from 1868 but probably at different premises prior to 1877. This building known as "Evansdale" from about 1886.
