Statement of significance:

Excellent row of attached Federation cottages. Not significantly altered as far as overall row is concerned. Very few rows of such length survive in as good condition. Important streetscape contribution. Local significance.

Description

Construction years: 1890-1915
Physical description: Good Federation row of attached cottages. Iron roofed verandahs, separated by parapet wing walls. Many alterations to individual houses but row essentially intact overall. Alterations include concrete roof tiles, and painting of brick (Nos. 105 and 115). All retain original verandah timberwork, gablets over, and palisade fencing. Some retain original slate roof. Gablets in roughcast with decorative timber infill. Timberwork to verandahs is especially good. Good brick and moulded chimneys.

History

Historical notes: First appear in Sands Directory in 1907. The houses were known by the following names until the 1920's: No. 101: "Juliette"; No. 103: "Derwent"; No. 105: Bellrive"; No. 107: "Huon"; No. 109: "Beltana" No. 111: "Sorell"; No. 113: "Tamar"; No. 115: "Deloraine"; No. 117: "Burnie"; No. 119: "Zeehan".
