Statement of significance:

One of the last of Waverley's Victorian villas. Probably the oldest surviving houses in the Bondi Beach area . Certainly the only old villa still standing. Althogh somewhat altered, it retains its original form and essential fabric and appears quite capable of reconstruction. Quite an interesting design, clearly intended to exploit the views of the ocean. High local significance. Recommendation: A conservation plan should be required prior to any future work on the property.

Description

Construction years: 1890-1915
Physical description: Victorian Villa on prominent, elevated site. Spoiled by garages, roof deck, concrete roof tiles and other minor alterations. Hard to say to what extent original design has been modified. Complex plan arrangement. Octagonal front projection is a distinguishing feature. Front verandah wraps around the feature and emphasises its form. Cast iron columns. Other decoration replaced or possibly lost. Stone foundations. Original iron palisade fence and gate.

History

Historical notes: Shown in an 1895 photo of Bondi Beach (Dowd, p. 9). Probably built in or about 1890. Would have stood on a larger allotment originally.
