Construction years: 1891-1920
Physical description: The only twentieth century building of any note on the school property is the Federation style classroom building facing Salisbury Street. ("The Grange" at 12 Carrington Road is an earlier villa separately recorded). The classroom building is three storeys with gabled tiled roof. Face brick with distinctive white painted quoining and string courses. Balconies between towers on Salisbury Street elevation. These are all that remain of original front verandas. Double verandah at rear appears to be a relatively recent addition. Gates to Carrington Road, on Salisbury Street. Development in stages since 1903 has resulted in an informal arrangement of buildings and open spaces. On the south-west corner is an impressive gateway with sandstone moulded pillars, ornate steel archway and sets of gates from about 1930. Avenue planting extends from this entrance, along the southern boundary wall. Wall of dark mauve coloured brick, to 2.1m high, with piers. Approximately 150m long. Avenue trees (from possibly 1930's) include ornamental Olives (to 9m), Camphor laurels (to 12m) and New Zealand Christmas trees (to 10m). Above the swimming pool is a row of Hills figs to 10m, from about 1950. In the south-east corner there are two fine trees dating from c.1910, one being a tall Norfolk Island pine (about 22m high) and the other a Port Jackson fig (about 13m high with a spread of 20m). In the central area is a large Moreton Bay fig (to 15m). Severely lopped to minimum spread, possibly existing from c.1920. A row of Hills figs (to 10m) from c.1965, adds visual softening to the main façade and amenity to the street (Birrell Street).
Current use: School and grounds
Former use: School and grounds

Historical notes: School established in 1903 on land acquired from the Barlow family in 1902. "Airmount" (originally James Birrell's "Ellerslie"), the former family home, was used for the first classes. This building was the first built by the College, erected in 1903. Second storey added in 1914. Height increased again in 1920 when towers took their……
