Statement of significance:

Underground water tank, holding 1000 gallons. Constructed in 1887 to store water from the Upper Nepean scheme, the water being pumped from Potts Hill to Crown Street Reservoir, thence to Woollahra (York Road), thence to Waverley. Only the upper edge of the circular wall is exposed and the upper surface the concrete roof is grassed over. The Crown Street Reservoir was originally built to circulate water from Botany Swamps, and was later connected to the Nepean Scheme by the Potts Hill line. The planning and construction of the Nepean Scheme was a major engineering accomplishment and this reservoir is an important relic of its first phase. Through its connection with the Crown Street Reservoir, it also harks back to the pre-Nepean phase, as pointed out in the attached National Trust description.
