Statement of significance:

The Pindari Road substation is a rare and representative example of an intact Interwar Stripped Classical domestic scaled substation which features reserved but well designed brick detailing to the street facade. It was built by the Sydney County Council during the later phases of suburban expansion of the electricity network.

Physical description: The Pindari Road substation is a double fronted single storey building with a domestic appearance designed to fit into its suburban environment. A gable wall facing the street has Stripped Classical Detailing to the fa├žade, with a central personnel entrance door surmounted by a brick arched pediment and stepped brick corbelled detailing which loosely imitates a classical entablature. Stylistic elements include the use of an L shaped floor plan, tiles gable roof and boxed eaves.

The Pindari Road substation is constructed using load bearing face brick. It has a ceramic tiled roof and timber framed doors.

Vents rusted. Soffits need painting.
Date condition updated:27 Apr 07
Modifications and dates: Roof tiles replaced. Gutters and downpipes replaced. Doors replaced. Gates removed.

This item contributes to local character and should be conserved. Original details should be maintained including doors, windows and original signage. New materials should be sympathetic to the nature and character of the original building. Wherever possible, changes should be restricted to the interior of the building. Routine maintenance of existing fabric is essential.
