The building is held in high regard for its links with the local community especially the families of volunteers/retained firemen. It has historical association with the local community since commencing its operation.

Physical description: A red brick asymmetrical domestic scale building with a dominant Federation Free Classical style rendered front faade attached to the building, sited on a prominent corner, combining garaging and residential quarters. The rendered classical aedicule has decorative banding, dentils and corbels with a deeply set three pane timber window either side of the single engine bay which has timber and glass doors. A pit (25 feet deep) still exists under the engine bay which was used for repair of the engine. A terracotta tiled roof with exposed rafters and stucco chimneys with decorative banding and terracotta chimney pots. Timber framed sash windows with four pane top sashes and single pane bottom sashes. Interiors are reasonably intact with decorative pressed metal panelled ceilings, cornices and decorative plaster airvents. Skirting boards and architraving are Victorian style painted timber with timber picture rails to some rooms and Victorian castiron and tile fireplaces with Nouveau style mantelpieces to the watch and recreation rooms. Some brass on timber block gas light fixtures to the walls and a brass coach lamp with reflective plate insitu, also original metal electrical conduits. Original kitchen store with metal hangers for pots and pans.
Modifications and dates: Shed at rear built 1943. Extensions to the rear 1951. Verandah enclosed 1962-63. Alterations and renovations c1965.

Former use: Fire Station and residence


Historical notes: Dedicated 1914; Fire Station opened 18/6/1916 (Kass 1997).
Marble plaque states A.D. 1915 erected by the Board of Fire Commissioners of NSW. Chief Officer: NC Sparks. Built on swamp area which had to be filled to ground level. The first public building in Albury with a tiled roof.
