Energy-efficient household appliances
By looking for Energy Rating Labels and using the Energy Rating Calculator before purchasing, you’ll save money on running your white goods.
The labels, which indicate a star rating according to the appliance’s energy efficiency, are mandatory throughout Australia. They allow you to compare different products and work out how much they will cost to run (PDF 728KB).
The running costs of some electrical appliances can far exceed the purchase price, so energy efficiency is an important factor when considering overall long-term value.
The Office of Environment and Heritage’s Smarter Choice program is designed to help you make more informed purchasing decisions on appliances.
As well as helping you choose energy-efficient appliances, the Smarter Choice program also gives guidance on disposing of your old whitegoods and TVs and computers.
