Jindabyne to host 2008 Snowy Ride fundraiser checkpoint

Media release: 4 November 2008

Jindabyne will play a central role in this year's Snowy Ride fundraiser with the Snowy Region Visitor Centre, at Jindabyne, expected to be a hub of activity as more than 3000 motorcycle riders stop at the centre to experience some mountain hospitality.

The Snowy Ride 2008, through the Steven Walter Fund, aims to raise money for research into childhood cancer for The Children's Cancer Institute. This year promises to be bigger and better with entries currently exceeding the 2007 ride.

On November 8 the riders will travel along many of the major roads in the mountains with Jindabyne's Snowy Region Visitor Centre this year one of the main checkpoints for the ride.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service's Manager, Business and Tourism, Steve Redden said the NPWS is pleased to offer the visitor centre as a stop-over and says it will be a great opportunity to showcase the region.

"Once again this year we'd like to see the locals join in and become part of the occasion," Mr Redden said.

"The visitor centre will be the Jindabyne checkpoint and the centre will become the venue for showcasing the region.

"Sublime Cafe will provide an all day barbecue and refreshments at the entrance to the centre.

"It will be an amazing sight to see more than 3000 motorcycles in Jindabyne with most expected to stop at the checkpoint at various times during the day.

"The event will end later in the day at Thredbo for presentations and further fun and activities," Mr Redden said.
