Working with Nature on show

Media release: 26 June 2009

Working with Nature, an exhibition of photos by staff of the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) North Coast Region, will go on show at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre next week.

Manager of the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre Kathryn Wood said the exhibition of sixty photographs will run until the 31st July.

"The subjects chosen reflect the variety of work undertaken by over 100 skilled NPWS staff in our 85 national parks and reserves on the north coast," Ms Wood said.

"Photos range from gentle nature landscapes and historic heritage buildings to the fiery images taken on hazard reduction burns.

"Staff also come face to face with some of our more elusive native animals while working in the field and some great wildlife images have been captured, including underwater shots.

"The exhibition is being judged by local professional photographers Tim Aickin, Alex Cowley and Tony Allison.

"Sixty photos have been short-listed by the judging panel out of some 200 submitted by staff.

"Judges will choose the winners in the individual categories at the opening on 2 July.

"There will also be an opportunity for visitors to nominate their favourite image for the people's choice prize to be awarded at the end of the exhibition.

"So come along and find out what happens behind the scenery at this great exhibition.

"Follow it up with a special lunch or morning tea by the fireside or in the sunny courtyard of the Canopy Café for an enjoyable winter's day out at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre."
