Free Activities abound at Yanga these School Holidays

Media release: 17 September 2014

There are no excuses for bored kids these school holidays with plenty of free activities for young and old on offer at Yanga National Park, near Balranald.

National Parks and Wildlife Service Discovery Ranger Nikki McKenzie-Gay said the program of activities was designed so that there was something for everyone.

“Spring is a great time of year to visit Yanga. Sunny days make for great sunsets and you really shouldn’t miss a sunset over Yanga Lake –bring your own drinks nibblies for a great relaxing way to end the day.

“Or if your idea of a good time involves venturing into the depths of undiscovered parts of the park, the four wheel drive tag-along tour may be more your style. This tour will take you to River Red Gum forests and wetlands not normally accessible for visitors.

“The full schedule of events also includes:

  • Historic homestead tours,
  • Guided walks along Yanga Lake shoreline
  • Yarns at the woolshed  with local legends
  • Happy hour at the campground complete with Johnny Cakes and a cuppa

“The fun begins on Monday 22 September and all activities are free, although some do require bookings.

“As part of our commitment to conservation and protecting the park, we want to ensure visitors have an experience that they will remember.

“Yanga really is a special place and these school holidays there are plenty of different ways to see some of the highlights, all for free,” said Ms McKenzie-Gay.
