- Drive up Kosciuszko Road, past the park entrance, and take the first right turn.
- Drive along and turn left at ‘to lodge’ sign, and it’s a 200m drive along an unsealed road.
Road access: Sealed road - 2WD vehicles.

Currango Homestead (4 bedrooms, up to 9 people)
Nestled among the snowgums, Currango Homestead offers unique heritage eco-accommodation in the Australian Alps in Kosciuszko National Park. Registered on the National Estate, the historic homestead was built around 1895. It’s ideal for large groups and families who want to experience the spectacular High Plains in true pioneer style.
On approach to Currango, you’ll see the majestic pines that line the driveway, while resident kangaroos relax on the lawns. Running by solar power and with no mobile phone signal to distract from your break, you can experience the rustic charm of station life in this beautifully restored homestead.
When you’re ready to explore, saddle up the horses and start your adventure along one of the trails accessible from Currango Homestead. If you’re after more heart-pumping action, go mountain biking to Oldfields Hut and other historic huts in the area.
At the end of the day, as the sun goes down, relax on the verandah and soak up the spectacular views as the surrounding plains turn to gold.

Cultural heritage: The complex of buildings, including homestead, cottages, sheds and out buildings, is one of the most intact examples of a high country station in Kosciuszko National Park. The main homestead was built around 1895 and is the centre of Currango Station and the residence of the caretakers. The Homestead, 'Pines' and 'Daffodil Cottage' are part of an intact complex of buildings representing station life during the late 1800s and early1900s. These three buildings offer rustic accommodation and an experience of life in the high country over 100 years ago.

Getting there: Currango Homestead is in the northern precinct of Kosciuszko National Park. To get there from Cooma/Adaminaby:
- Turn off Snowy Mountains Highway onto Tantangara Road for 18km, which becomes Pocket Saddle Road for 6km.
- Turn left into Port Philip trail and drive for 2km
- Turn right to Currango Homestead
To get there from Tumut:
- Turn off Snowy Mountains Highway, onto Long Plain Road for 2km.
- Turn right into Port Philip trail for 16km and over Tantantgara Causeway. Contact Tumut on (02) 6947 7025 to check if the causeway is closed due to flooding.
- Turn left to Currango Homestead
Road access: Unsealed road/trail - 2WD vehicles. 4WD required in wet weather.

Daffodil Cottage (2 bedrooms, up to 6 people)
Daffodil Cottage was once the overseer’s residence for the historic Currango Homestead. Located high in Kosciuszko National Park, it now offers a glimpse of life on a pastoral station in the rugged high country, over 100 years ago. With no mobile phone reception, it’s the perfect getaway from the modern world.
Have a cuppa on the shady verandah and watch the kangaroos grazing on the lawns. Explore the majestic plains and rugged mountains of the Australian Alps along a range of walking tracks, or experience Yarangobilly Caves. Try your luck at fishing in the crystal clear mountain streams, or saddle up your horse and ride the trails in true pioneer fashion.
In the evening, you’re bound to taste the difference as you’re tucking into a mouth-watering roast cooked on the heritage woodstove. Round it all off with a log fire, a bottle of the finest red and a selection of your favourite after-dinner munchies.

The Pines Cottage (6 bedrooms, up to 16 people)
For a reminder of the important things in life, try this rustic getaway, high in the Australian Alps in Kosciuszko National Park, near Adaminaby. The Pines Cottage is part of an historic complex of buildings that include Currango Homestead and Daffodil Cottage, dating back to the late 1880s. Originally built to provide accommodation for stockmen, it’s perfect for large groups.
Once you’ve unloaded the car, breathe in that clean, crisp mountain air and take in the sweeping plains under the curious gaze of kangaroos grazing on the lawn. From here, you can explore the high country with a wide range of activities that include walking, horse riding, mountain biking and fishing.
When the sun sinks and the night fills with stars, it’s time to head indoors, stoke up the wood stove, and cook up a feast fit for a stockman. Settle in for a night of wine and song around the big open fire.

Wolgal Hut (3 bedrooms, up to 8 people)
Wolgal Hut, in the historic subalpine Kiandra district, combines homely comfort with the look and feel of a 60s retro ski lodge. It’s a great base for exploring the spectacular high country of the Australian Alps in Kosciuszko National Park, near Adaminaby.
Once you’ve settled into the classic stone and timber lodge, you’re ready for action. Nearby Mount Selwyn is a great ski spot in winter and there’s excellent bushwalking and trout fishing during the warmer months. Try the nearby New Chum Hill trail or Goldseekers trail, which is also great for snow shoeing in winter.
If you feel like something a little more laid-back, indulge in some birdwatching from the outdoor deck. Look for wedge-tailed eagles and in winter you might catch a glimpse of the vibrant flame robin.
As the evening descends, enjoy a hearty meal together before relaxing round the log fire.
