Last chance to shine a Green Globe on innovative environmental efforts

Know a business, individual or community group excelling in sustainability? Hurry up and let the world know by entering them in the Green Globes, NSW leading sustainability awards, before entries close next week on 27 June.

Green Globe Awards are the leading environmental recognition program, celebrating excellence, leadership and innovation in sustainability

The annual awards celebrate exceptional environmental achievements and outstanding sustainability projects across the state and nominations for this year's awards will close Tuesday 27 June.

Office of Environment and Heritage Director of Sustainability Programs Cristien Hickey said the awards – now in their 18th year – are a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of businesses, community groups and individuals who are leading sustainable change.

"We know there are many people who are dedicated to improving the environment. They are working across regional and remote areas and in our cities and towns. They are developing innovative, ground-breaking ideas and they deserve to be acknowledged.

"People can nominate themselves or others - there is a category for everyone!

"We have the Young Sustainability Champion Award for those under 26 years; not-for-profit groups can apply in the Community Leadership category and dynamic commercial projects can nominate for the Business Leadership Award.

"There are also awards for projects which are building community resilience to a changing climate and creating resource efficiency, while those who are caring for our natural environment and native plants and animals are also recognised," Ms Hickey said.

The nominations are judged by an independent panel of experts. This year's winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Art Gallery of New South Wales on 19 October 2017.

Last year's winners included well-known companies such as IKEA and Unilever, and the world-class Charles Sturt University, the first university in Australia to officially achieve certified carbon neutrality status.

Nominations close at 5pm, next Tuesday 27 June.
