OEH Aboriginal Regional Assessments Policy
Aboriginal Regional Assessment (ARA) is a landscape level, broad-scale approach to facilitating the incorporation of Aboriginal values into the environmental decision making process. ARA provides a consistent method for the structured and systematic assessment of Aboriginal values and provides a means for identifying Aboriginal community interests and priorities for the management and protection of the environment.
The primary focus of ARA is to facilitate a process that ensures Aboriginal people are active participants in environmental and land use decisions and are key beneficiaries of any related processes and environmental outcomes.
The OEH Aboriginal Regional Assessments Policy outlines the role of OEH and ARA principles as well as providing an overview of ARA.
