Living Parks - a sustainable visitation strategy for NSW national parks

February 2005

The 'Living Parks' strategy is a sustainable visitation strategy for NSW national parks. A draft of the strategy was on public exhibition from February to April 2005.

'Living Parks' provides a guide to the management of sustainable and culturally appropriate visitation to our national parks. It aims to ensure that the public can continue to experience, enjoy and benefit from NSW parks while protecting and conserving their diverse values.

The goals of 'Living Parks' are:

  • the protection and conservation of park values
  • enhanced visitor experiences
  • sustainable and culturally appropriate visitor use
  • sound practice in visitor management
  • enhanced community health and wellbeing
  • economic benefits for communities.

'Living Parks' provides broad strategic direction and establishes principles for visitor management. It sets statewide priorities and identifies actions to achieve them. A statewide action plan, contained within 'Living Parks', details how priority actions will be delivered at state, regional and local levels.
