Water bugs: mother nature's indicator of stream health.

Many people would be familiar with water being tested before human consumption and the testing of wastewater after being treated at sewage plants before discharge back into streams. Whilst both these types of water testing are imperative to meet health and environmental standards, there exists a third type of water monitoring that is perhaps less well known, but which has been undertaken for over 10 years in and adjacent to resort areas.

Using a kicknet to sample water bugs.Selwyn Snowfields have been busy this summer in preparation for the 2005 snowseason.

Key projects include:

  • Fully sealing the Selwyn Snowfields carpark with 18,000m2 of asphalt
  • Adding nine more Automatic Fan Guns to our snow-making fleet.
  • Installing a "Magic Carpet" lift to our Snow Sports School area.
  • Having two snow-tubing areas at Selwyn Snowfields for this winter.
