South Head - Conservation Management Plan

The Conservation Management Plan for South Head within Sydney Harbour National Park was prepared for NPWS by the NSW Government Architect's Office in 2006 (volume 1) and Otto Cserhalmi and Partners P/L in 2010 (volume 1B and volumes 2A and 2B). The study area includes precincts commonly referred to as Inner South Head, Lady Bay Beach, Green Point Reserve and Gap Bluff.

The main purpose of the CMP is to identify significance and provide guidelines for the conservation, use, interpretation and management of South Head to ensure that the heritage values of the place are maintained and, where appropriate, enhanced. The CMP will guide future management of the site in consideration of its heritage resources by:

  • Identifying the site's cultural heritage resources;
  • Assessing the value of those resources;
  • Developing policies for conservation, interpretation, management and future use of the site; and
  • Providing an understanding of the conservation management processes for the site's stakeholders.

Volume 1 of the CMP identifies the site's cultural heritage resources, provides an understanding of the site through analysis of its historical development and physical characteristics and assesses the vales of the resources.

Volume 1B of the CMP addresses the site's constraints and opportunities and provide polices for appropriate management of the cultural heritage resources now and into the future. Volumes 2A and 2B provide an inventory of heritage items.

Volume 3, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment has not been uploaded to this site as it contains locations of Aboriginal sites that are not publically available.
