International weed links
You'll find a lot of useful weed information on the following websites. Remember that Australian native plants can become weeds outside their native range, so they may be described as weeds on websites from other parts of the world. Make sure you find out the native range of a plant before you treat it as a weed.
- The US federal government's invasive species website has an excellent list of invasive species databases, including links and good summaries. It also provides a listing of international organisations with an interest in weed control.
- The Invasive Woody Plants in the Tropics website has detailed biological studies from tropical regions around the world.
- South African Weeds and Invasive Plants offers photos, descriptions, distributions and an on-line weed key.
- The Invasive Plants of Canada website is another useful resource.
- The Nature Conservancy's Wildland Invasive Species Team provides weed photos and information on adaptive management, tool reviews and community involvement.
- The US Department of Agriculture's plants database provides state noxious weed lists, invasive and introduced plants in the US and distribution maps. Its Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service noxious weeds page also includes the US noxious weed list, risk assessment for noxious weeds, fact sheets and action plans.
- The Federal Interagency Committee for the Management of Noxious and Exotic Weeds (USA) offers good resources and calendar of events.
- US Exotic Pest Plant Councils (EPPC) are non-governmental groups raising awareness and exchanging information about invasive, non-native pest plants. Visit the following councils' websites:
- The Intriguing World of Weeds website has detailed information on US weeds, including horsetail (Equisetum arvense) and ragwort (Senecio jacobea).
- Hawaiian Ecosystems at Risk (HEAR) offers in-depth, complete information on invasive species, including link to Pacific Island Ecosystems at Risk (PIER).
- The Global Compendium of Weeds makes portions of Rod Randall's massive weeds reference database available on-line.
