NPWS volunteers policy

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) recognises the importance of community involvement in protecting and conserving nature and cultural heritage in the New South Wales landscape. Examples of voluntary conservation activities undertaken by the community include:

  • volunteering in national parks to support conservation management
  • participating in the recovery of threatened species
  • engaging in restoration of bushland
  • helping to protect Aboriginal heritage
  • assisting the conservation of historic sites
  • undertaking wildlife rescue and rehabilitation
  • furthering community education initiatives.

This policy guides NPWS staff in the management of volunteers (both individuals and organisations) in programs and projects, including incident response situations.
