Management documents

OEH is progressively developing plans of management and fire management plans for each national park and reserve to:

  • manage reserves so they balance the needs of conservation and visitors
  • protect native ecosystems and people from bushfires.

Plans of management have been prepared for almost 70% of reserves. These plans:

  • list natural and cultural heritage features that must be protected such as threatened species and Aboriginal sites
  • include strategies to manage threats such as pest animals and weeds
  • outline facilities planned for development
  • enable OEH to plan ahead and make the best use of resources.

Fire management plans and strategies have been prepared for all reserves. These plans:

  • contain methods for suppressing fires
  • describe when and where any prescribed burning and hazard reduction should be carried out.
