Compare energy star ratings
To save money on bills, look out for the Energy Rating and Water Rating labels on the appliances. These labels provide information on how much energy and water the washing machine or dryer will use.
Check the number of stars on the label. The more stars, the more efficient.
Every extra star can save you hundreds of dollars over the life of your washing machine and dryer.
Second, check the number in the red box. It shows how many kWh of electricity it will use in one year. The lower the number, the cheaper it will be to run.
Washing machines also have a Water Rating label – again, the more stars, the more efficient.
The blue water consumption box tells you how many litres of water the washing machine uses each load and the capacity of the machine.
Buying an energy efficient washing machine or dryer
Go for a washing machine with at least a 3.5-star energy rating and 4-star water rating.
Front-loader machines generally use less water and less energy than a top-loader.
