Radiation control

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA)  administers the Radiation Control Act 1990 (the Act) and the Radiation Control Regulation 2003 (the Regulation). The EPA has certain regulatory powers, these include regulating the use of radioactive substances and radiation equipment in NSW.

The Radiation Advisory Council (RAC), is established under the Act, and advises the Minister for the Environment on minimising dangers arising from radiation, the development of policy, and amendments to the Act and Regulation, as well as their administration. The RAC also provides advice to EPA on issues relating to licensing, registration and accreditation.

Approved personal monitoring device (PMD) providers - Clause 17(1) of the Radiation Control Regulation 2003 requires all PMDs used to measure occupational radiation exposure in NSW to be approved by EPA.
