The Office of Environment and Heritage undertakes a range of research on the environment, including:

• air quality
• climate change research
• chemicals and pesticides
• bushfire
• horticulture, systematics and ecology of plants (undertaken by Royal Botanic Gardens) and plant ecology (including threatened flora)
• geodiversity, karst and caves
• landscape management
• maps and data
• marine and coastal research and monitoring
• native animals including Australian white ibis survey
• native vegetation including woodland ecology
• park management effectiveness
• pests and weeds
• soils including soil salinity
• threatened species including spotted-tailed or tiger quolls
• water quality including Beachwatch
• wetlands.

Funding

Programs to fund research and development include:

• Environmental Research Program (NSW Environmental Trust)

• Technology Action Grants (Climate Action Grants Program).
