WASHING YOUR CAR - REMEMBER THE DRAIN IS JUST FOR RAIN

XYZ's Mayor, Cr.........., has urged local residents not to wash their cars on the road, or in their driveway, in a bid to reduce stormwater pollution.

"If you wash your car on the road, or on the driveway, the soapy water containing chemicals drains straight into the stormwater system which empties into creeks, rivers and beaches.

"Of course, many of us like to have clean cars, what I would like to see is people keeping their cars clean and helping the environment at the same time," said Cr..........

"One way that we can keep our cars and our waterways clean is by washing them over the lawn or gravel.

"Rather than using a hose, it's best to use a bucket with as little detergent as possible. Once the car is clean, the bucket can be emptied onto the lawn, rather than down the drain.

"Of course, many people who are conscious of the environment are choosing to go to a car wash that recycles its water."

XYZ Council won a $.......... grant in.......... from the NSW Environment Protection Authority to.......... .......... The grant is part of the State Government's three-year, $60 million campaign to tackle urban stormwater pollution head-on.
