CLEAN WATER OUR GOAL SAYS COUNCIL
XYZ Council today set stormwater pollution in its sights when it unveiled its program to spend the $.......... recently awarded by the NSW Environment Protection Agency as part of the Drain is Just for Rain campaign.
Stormwater pollution is the single biggest threat to the health of the waterways in which XYZ's residents swim, fish and sail. "Council is committed to reducing stormwater pollution. When it rains, water washes cigarette butts, dog litter, plastic bags, fertilisers, leaves and other types of pollution down the drain. It all ends up in our rivers, lakes and harbours.
"Pollution traps have solved part of the problem, stopping XX truck loads of pollution reaching XYZ's waterways, but Council wants to work with the community to stop pollution getting into the drain in the first place.
"If we all remember that the Drain is Just for Rain, then the waterways in which we swim, fish and sail will be so much cleaner.
There are many simple things that we can do during our everyday life to ensure that only clean water goes down the drain, whether it is in the garden, around the house or washing the car.
"The sorts of things we can do include picking up pet droppings and disposing of them properly, washing cars over the lawn and regularly sweeping up leaves and clippings and using them as mulch on the garden," said Cr..........
