Sydney's parks - Biodiversity Survey Priorities Program
In 2003, OEH audited the biodiversity of the national parks and reserves in the Sydney area. We:
- reviewed the amount of systematic flora and fauna surveys that had been done in each reserve in the past
- assessed whether these past surveys provided a full understanding of the fauna and flora in the reserves
- provided a plan for areas that required the most effort in the following three years.
As a result of this audit, we were able to set up the Biodiversity Survey Priorities Program, to target areas which were most in need of biodiversity surveys. The following reports show the results of the first year of this program.

Biodiversity survey priorities for DECCW reserves in the Sydney Basin
As part of the Biodiversity Survey Priorities Program, the status of biodiversity information for OEH reserves is periodically reviewed and priorities are set for the collection of data on flora and fauna. The current review covers an expanded study area of the Sydney Basin Bioregion, affording a comparison of the status of data information across all Sydney sandstone reserves. Each reserve has been ranked in terms of the quantity and quality of available data, and the proposed annual program for flora and fauna surveys (2009-2014) is given.
The vertebrate fauna of the Wollangambe and Upper Wolgan area
This report provides a comprehensive review of the terrestrial vertebrate fauna and their habitats found in the Wollangambe and Upper Wolgan areas in the north-west Blue Mountains and south-west Wollemi National Parks.
The vertebrate fauna of Dharawal State Conservation Area, Dharawal Nature Reserve and adjacent lands
This report provides a comprehensive review of the terrestrial vertebrate fauna and their habitats found in the Dharawal reserves on the Woronora Plateau, south of Sydney.
The vertebrate fauna of Maroota Ridge State Conservation Area
This report describes the results of a fauna survey and assessment project of this small reserve in north-western Sydney.
The vertebrate fauna of Northeastern Blue Mountains National Park
This report describes the results of a systematic fauna survey in North-East Blue Mountains NP. It reviews and assesses all records for this area of the park and compiles profiles on threatened fauna and their localities.
The vertebrate fauna of South-eastern Wollemi National Park
This report describes the results of a systematic fauna survey in south-eastern Wollemi NP. It reviews and assesses all records for this area of the park and compiles profiles on threatened fauna and their localities
The vertebrate fauna of Southern Yengo National Park and Parr State Conservation Area
This report describes the results of a systematic fauna survey in Southern Yengo NP and Parr SCA. It reviews and assesses all records for these areas and compiles profiles on threatened fauna and their localities.
The vertebrate fauna of Sugarloaf State Conservation Area
This report describes the results of a systematic fauna survey in Sugarloaf SCA situated in the ranges behind the Lower Hunter Valley. It reviews and assesses all records for the reserve and compiles profiles on threatened fauna and their localities.
The native vegetation of Yengo and Parr reserves and surrounds
This report describes the patterns and composition of native vegetation communities found across Yengo and Parr reserves, north-west of Sydney. Detailed mapping and survey have been completed across more than 250,000 hectares. GIS mapping data for this area can be downloaded from http://mapdata.environment.nsw.gov.au/.
The vertebrate fauna of North Western Wollemi National Park
This report details the terrestrial vertebrates of north-western Wollemi National Park.
The vertebrate fauna of North Eastern Wollemi National Park
This report compiles and reviews data on terrestrial vertebrate fauna and documents the extensive systematic surveys undertaken by the Department of Environment and Conservation during 1997 and during the spring, summer and autumn of 2004-05.
The native vegetation of the Nattai and Bargo reserves
This report describes the distribution and composition of the native vegetation within and immediately surrounding Nattai National Park, Nattai State Conservation Area and Bargo State Conservation Area.
The vertebrate fauna of Kanangra-Boyd National Park
This report outlines the results of OEH surveys of the terrestrial vertebrates of Kanangra-Boyd National Park, near Oberon.
The vertebrate fauna of Lane Cove National Park
This report documents a systematic survey of vertebrate fauna in Lane Cove National Park and adjacent council-managed land, undertaken by OEH in 2004.
The vertebrate fauna of south-western Blue Mountains National Park
Download this report, which describes the terrestrial vertebrates of south-western Blue Mountains NP, derived from comprehensive OEH animal surveys.
The vertebrate fauna of the Nattai and Bargo reserves
This report collates and summarises information on the terrestrial vertebrates of Nattai National Park, Nattai State Conservation Area, Bargo State Conservation Area and the Bargo River crown lands area. It also presents the results of extensive surveys completed over the last few years.
The vertebrate fauna of Wollondilly River Nature Reserve
This project records the fauna values of this relatively small nature reserve which protects an area of the rugged Wollondilly Valley landscape. Survey work was carried out between 2002 and 2004.
The vertebrate fauna of Manobalai Nature Reserve And Adjacent Crown Lands
This report compiles and reviews Atlas of NSW Wildlife data on terrestrial vertebrate fauna and documents the extensive systematic surveys undertaken by OEH in 1997 and during the spring, summer and autumn of 2004-05.
The vertebrate fauna of Northern Yengo National Park
This report compiles and reviews background information on the fauna of northern Yengo NP. This has been supplemented by extensive new data generated by surveys conducted during the spring-summer period in 2004-05, to provide a more accurate inventory of fauna across the range of habitats present.
The vertebrate fauna Of Werakata National Park
Werakata National Park is one of the more significant OEH conservation reserves for the protection of biodiversity in the Sydney Basin. Located in the dry rainshadow of the Hunter Valley, this recently acquired reserve maintains habitat that is used by at least 210 species of vertebrate fauna. Twenty of these species are considered threatened under state legislation and two are recognised under Commonwealth legislation as being nationally threatened.
