Funding opportunities

There are lots of programs and organisations that can assist school communities, teachers and students with funding and incentives that support:

  • student investigations
  • research
  • school environmental activities and projects.

Grants

Local councils often provide grants to schools in their area for specific projects, so don't forget to check what is available from your council. If you are not sure of your local council area you can do a local council search.

Term 1

Eco Schools grants - Call for applications

The Eco Schools grants program will open on 26 April, 2016 and close on 17, June 2016.

What is available?

Funding is available for a variety of environmental projects including:

  • water and energy conservation
  • waste avoidance and reuse
  • bush regeneration and habitat improvement
  • bush tucker, sensory, food and native gardens

To apply for one of these grants your school must be registered with Sustainable Schools NSW – check on this map first to see if your school is already registered.

Competitions

Find an environmental competition for your school to participate in. The competitions are listed by the closing date, and are run by government agencies, organisations and businesses. New competitions are announced throughout the year, so please keep checking the website so you don't miss out.

Term 2

Sleek Geeks Science - Primary School

  • Awarded for a short film that communicated a scientific concept in an accessible and engaging way.
  • Online entry closes 6 May, 2016. Hard copy submissions close 13 May, 2016. First prize: $2000.
  • Sponsored by University of Sydney.
  • Teacher information and lessons are also available from the site.
