Sustaining our environment

External Stakeholder Engagement

A positive approach to sustainability helps companies build stronger relationships with their external stakeholders – their communities, government, shareholders, suppliers and customers. These relationships in turn help companies find and pursue opportunities for cleaner production, resource efficiency and environmentally sustainable solutions.

External Stakeholder Engagement reinforces the value companies gain from working with their stakeholders, and ensures that Sustainability Advantage partners do so effectively.

The module is tailored to meet your company's culture, priorities and current initiatives. It explores how financial markets and NGOs are calling for more reporting on sustainability performance, how engagement with such stakeholders helps sustainability action, and how to engage proactively and effectively. You determine the best direction for your engagement, develop a well-reasoned plan, and learn from best practice examples.

Over a 12-18 month period, Sustainability Advantage partners may improve everything from their complaint handling, to their community, industry and government partnerships.

While results depend on a company's own efforts, Sustainability Advantage assists its partners with:

  • practical workshops;
  • a comprehensive range of guides, case studies and templates;
  • phone and email advice;
  • feedback on company documents;
  • and one-on-one specialist support.

Partners also work in a cluster of like-minded companies that offer mutual support, networking opportunities and specialist seminars. Partners' efforts towards sustainability are promoted through the Sustainability Advantage recognition program.
